Alfonso Ruiz grew up in Los Angeles where his father introduced him to boxing by taking him to watch many of the greats at the Olympic Auditorium and the Fabulous Forum. These included Bobby Chacon, Alberto Davila, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Lupe Pintor, Julio Cesar Chavez, Roger Mayweather, Hector Lopez, and many more. He was hooked on boxing and from this point on never missed a big fight in an era where fights were shown on closed-circuit such as the Arguello / Pryor fight at the Sports Arena then eventually to “ON” TV and HBO. Since then, Alfonso has traveled around the world living in Japan, Brazil, Mexico, and 27 different states throughout the country where he’ll always find the local boxing gyms where champions are made.
These days you’ll catch Alfonso at all major fights in Southern California from the Staples Center to the Fantasy Springs in Indio. He is an avid fan of boxing but a bigger fan of the fighters themselves, their story, their challenge, and their inspiration in the pursuit of greatness. Alfonso’s favorite fighters include Alexis Arguello, Roberto Duran to the greats of today such as Danny Roman, Charlo Brothers, Tyson Fury. Vergil Ortiz Jr, and Teofimo Lopez among others.
Rick Prado grew up in beautiful San Diego where his dad introduced him to boxing by always ordering and watching the major pay-per-views with friends. Rick was hooked by an early age and never missed a major fight that included watching rising young stars like Mike Tyson and the great Julio Cesar Chavez. This led Rick to start attending many major events not only throughout Southern California but also in Las Vegas. Rick has watched many greats in person – Manny Pacquiao, Fernando Vargas, Oscar De La Hoya, and of course with his Puerto Rican heritage, his favorites Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto. Rick remembers the days of passing around the hat for the boxing pool where everyone got into the action! These days you’ll find Rick at all major boxing events in Southern California and can’t wait for the pandemic to end so he started attending fights again. Rick’s favorite fighters include Julio Cesar Chavez, Felix Trinidad, Miguel Cotto to today’s stars like Teofimo Lopez, Vergil Ortiz Jr, Ryan Garcia, and Canelo among others.
How We Got Started/Why
We have a boxing passion that we have always wanted to share with other fellow boxing fans. During the Covid -19 pandemic, we realized that with all the madness taking place, perhaps we can introduce an escape for real fight fans that want to listen to real fight talk. In the process, it gives us an opportunity to share our passion and more importantly the stories of the fighters that make this sport so great. We offer a unique perspective in that we are legitimate and genuine fight fans that provide a real fan view that is missing in many of today’s podcasts. The podcasts are very conversational in nature, like being at a fight and talking to the fan sitting next to you. We are also interested in helping the community and upcoming fighters. We partnered early on with Survivor2Leader that helps victims of sex trafficking making a donation anytime we have professional fighters/personnel on our show. Our boxing knowledge spans from the firsthand experience watching fights in the ’70s to the current fighters today and talking to many of the great fighters and trainers.
